Making Independent Lifestyles a Reality

After living in a residential institute since he was 11, Ken Silver made plans with his family to renovate and construct a home that would allow the 33 year-old man to re-enter the community and live independently in his own home. To help make that dream a reality, Ken and his family hired David Marcus Elite Design & Construction.

Marc Kaman, President, David Marcus Elite Design & Construction met with the Silver family, their architect and interior designer to plan a home that was wheelchair accessible.

"We wanted to make sure that every area of the home was available for Ken to use," said Kaman.

The David Marcus Elite Design & Construction team:

  • Ramped all entrances.
  • Remodeled the master bedroom and added a bathroom.
  • Enlarged doorways.
  • Removed walls.
  • Modified kitchen cabinets.
  • Added a minivator to the basement.
  • Installed an electric lift off of the deck.
  • Extended a screened-in porch accessible from the master bedroom.

"Marc and his team did an excellent job. They were very thoughtful, committed, cleanly and met all deadlines," said Dr. Paula Silver, Ken's aunt. "Construction and design can be traumatic but not with Marc heading the project. The changes Marc and his team have made to Ken's home have given him a new lease on life. Ken's environment no longer limits him. Instead, his new environment enables Ken to live to his true capacity."
