We hired Marc Kaman of David Marcus Construction for a major home renovation in 2008 that was completed in June of 2009. We have four children, one of whom--Peter--uses a power wheelchair. We wanted to make his life at home as easy as possible given the challenges he faces getting around in his wheelchair elsewhere. Marc and his crew understood that perfectly! Our goal was to turn our 50-year old 2-story Colonial home into primarily a one-story home.
We took out two bedrooms and a bath upstairs to vault the ceiling in the entrance and living room. We added 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a kitchen, a family room, a dining room, an elevator to the basement and an Endless Pool and play room in the basement. It was an enormous job and a huge responsibility for Marc. He handled it beautifully. When issues arose, we always felt confident that Marc could handle them. He was frank with us throughout the project and fair in setting pricing on change orders. Our son spent a lot of time in the hospital during the construction, and we were relieved that Marc was in charge because we did not have a lot of time to dedicate to the project. Marc is competent and experienced and genuine.
One specific decision that we struggled with was how to waterproof the wall next to the pool. We had several conversations about it with one another and with others, trying to find the right solution. Marc came up with the perfect solution. He put cedar up in layers so when the water splashes up, it drips right back down into the pool. We were all happy with his idea and it has worked out perfectly.
Marc's employees are all professional and experienced. Robin in the office has always been available to help with anything we have needed. I was not interested in shopping for toilets, so Robin researched quality toilets that were in our price range and emailed me some options. I chose toilets, sinks and faucets that way because with four children and a part-time job I did not have time for shopping for those things.
We are grateful for the beautiful home that David Marcus Construction has built for us!
